DEFENSE VERDICT FOR JOE STRANG

Joe Strang

In an unprecedented trial which was one of the first following the Covid Pandemic and New York State Court closures, Joe Strang obtained a defense verdict in the Suffolk County Supreme Court, Riverhead, New York on August 3, 2020 in a medical malpractice case involving a claim of infant brain damage. It was alleged that the defendants – a mix of radiologists and pediatricians – failed to diagnose an intracranial fluid accumulation known as an arachnoid cyst, and that the cyst was thus allowed to grow to the point where it caused damaging compression of the right hemisphere of the brain. The trial commenced on February 11, 2020 and continued for the ensuing 5 weeks, when it was interrupted by a pandemic-related continuance. The trial resumed with special Covid-19 precautions and the original jury on July 27, and proceeded for an additional week. This 6 week trial featured 9 experts and 5 other physician witnesses. The plaintiff’s lawyer sought a total of $30 Million in general and special damages in his summation to compensate his infant client. The jury deliberated for 1 ½ days before exonerating all defendants.
